LG G Pad 5 10.1 Design

The LG G Pad 5 10.1 features a shiny glass front with the main aluminum build. Almost resembling the iPad in terms of size, the tablet has a rather slim figure.

On the front, we see the display covered by rounded corners. Around it as well are slightly thick bezels that do not overshadow the screen so much. The front camera is located right on top, tucked hidden in the bezel.

Moving on to the back, the aluminum material has given the cover a metal feel. The rear camera is located right on the very left corner. The sturdy material puts the tablet on the heavy side.

There may be other factors, but aluminum also contributes to the tablet’s total weight. While we can still carry it everywhere, holding it for hours may prove to be tiring.

Let’s shift towards the various sides of the tablets. On the top, we can find a basic headphone jack. The right side has quite a lot going on. It is where the power button and volume controls are located.

However, the fingerprint sensor is installed on the right side as well. Usually, fingerprint sensors are located on the back, so this is new in terms of accessibility.

Not forgetting the left side, we can put in our SIM card or external memory into the provided card slot. On the bottom side, we can find its USB-C port and the tablet’s dual speakers. Simplistic and slim, the overall design is kept fuss-free.

LG G Pad 5 10.1 Display

The LG G Pad 5 10.1 showcases a 10.1-inch display screen. Developers have claimed that the display stretches from one edge to another. Supposedly, this allows for wide-screen viewing pleasure.

Although, we did notice that it doesn’t go from edge to edge. The visuals are still cornered by bezels, but thankfully, they’re not too chunky.

We understand the concerns regarding wide screens as it could sacrifice the pixel quality. Upon further checking, the screen is supported by a 1200 x 1920 resolution. This promises vivid colors and sharp clarity with visuals. So not only is the display expansive, but it is crisp as well.

LG G Pad 5 10.1 Camera

The LG G Pad 5 10.1 has an 8MP rear camera and 5MP front camera. The brand has promised striking shots that are rich in colors. Looking at their megapixels alone, we think these cameras are of average quality.

They can still produce decent shots with their auto-focus and auto-shot features. But other than that, there is nothing exceptional regarding photography options.

However, we were rather impressed with the tablet’s video and audio playback quality. Accommodating up to 1080p at 30 frames per second, we were surprised by its smoothness. It’s not HD material, but it is still up to par for a huge tablet.

LG G Pad 5 10.1 Storage

The LG G Pad 5 10.1 comes with a whopping tablet storage of 32 GB. Depending on the amount of data you have, storage size will be affected.

The tablet’s operating system version and its other configurations play a part as well. We’re looking at only about 9.48 GB of storage that can be used. That’s the least amount of tablet memory that’s accessible.

But if we need more storage space, good news! The tablet allows an external memory of up to 512GB. This surely makes up the lack of tablet storage space. All we need to do is insert a microSD into the card slot.

LG G Pad 5 10.1 Performance

The LG G Pad 5 10.1 is supported by a Qualcomm MSM8996 Snapdragon 821 with 4GB RAM. The processor itself does not give off the most impressive of technological performances. It might not slow things down, but it is not tablet-worthy enough. It’s not bad, but it does not greatly wow us as well.

On the bright side, the tablet comes with a supportive 4GB RAM. This is helpful when we’re planning to run heavy-duty apps. Plus, it comes in handy when we intend on opening multiple apps at the same time.

Multitasking on the tablet becomes a breeze with 4GB. Just don’t forget to clear the cache once in a while.

Powering the tablet is the Android 9 Pie OS. As the OS is commonly found in most devices, it is indeed a familiar software. Visual wise, we have expected some changes to the interface, especially the home screen.

Apps drawers are gone, icons have been transformed, it has that trademark Android appearance.

Our LG G Pad 5 10.1 review is not complete without checking the sensor. Accessibility is a thing that developers have been engaging with recently. One way is by installing a fingerprint sensor, just like for this tablet.

As previously mentioned, the fingerprint sensor is located on the side. With a single touch, our tablet is immediately ready for use.

LG G Pad 5 10.1 Connectivity

The LG G Pad 5 10.1 can connect to the network courtesy of its LTE Technology. The tablet does support a wide variety of LTE networks. Unfortunately, since the tablet operates on a slow 600Mbps modem, the connection can be unstable.

Alternatively, we can optimize the Wi-Fi function. However, we found that the Wi-Fi itself is not as strong as we’d like it to be.

The tablet has other connectivity features as well. For instance, we have Bluetooth, coming in 4.2 version. This helps in connecting to other external devices without using cables, like wireless headphones. Another conventional method is using USB. Luckily, the tablet has a USB 2.0 Type-C port for that.

LG G Pad 5 10.1 Battery

The LG G Pad 5 10.1 is powered by a non-removable 8,200 mAh battery. We are thoroughly pleased with the battery capacity itself.

On standby mode, the tablet can last up to 17 days. That’s the equivalent of almost 9 hours straight spent watching videos. The tablet does live up to its long-lasting standards.

Once it’s out of power, we can simply fill it up using a USB-C charger. The battery not only lasts longer, but it charges fast as well.

However, this depends on all of the activities going around on the tablet. To make the process even faster, try to not use that tablet during its charging period.

Is the LG G Pad 5 10.1 a good device?

Retailed at $299.99, the LG G Pad 5 10.1 might be a bit too expensive, considering its qualities. When it comes to gadgets, there will always be ups and downs. However, the staggering price only offers average performance. The tablet does not have iconic features that make the device a hit.

Concluding our LG G Pad 5 10.1 review, try browsing for other products in the market. With a budget that’s almost at $300, chances are we may encounter better options. RAM size and battery are indeed important. But what makes a tablet is its ability to carry out different functions with minimal disruptions.

LG G Pad 5 10.1 Pros

  • Slim build
  • Huge RAM size
  • Long-lasting battery

LG G Pad 5 10.1 Cons
