Alcatel Joy Tab Kids Design
The Alcatel Joy Tab Kids employs a rather small, lightweight build. Ergonomically designed for children, the size is accommodating for its target demographic. On the back cover, the tab uses plastic as its main material.
It may not have premium qualities, but the plastic cover provides extra grip on the device. We understand that the choice of material helps kids have an easier time using the tab.
From a general perspective, the tablet applies a basic build like most standard tablets. On the right side, we can find the Power Button and Volume Buttons.
We did notice that the placement of those two essential buttons is slightly far. This may be an issue for children who have smaller hands. Whereas on the top, we found the tab’s headphone jack and micro USB port.
The Alcatel Joy Tab Kids originally comes in a metallic black color. From a kid’s perspective, this stock color might come off as boring. However, manufacturers have included a teal and lime green case that is included with the tab’s purchase.
The case, made out of rubber material, has a kickstand that’s built-in as well. Not only is the case color appealing, but it’s also designed to provide additional protection and support.

Alcatel Joy Tab Kids Display
The Alcatel Joy Tab Kids features an 8-inch screen supported by HD 1280 x 800 resolution. Surrounding the screen are rather thick bezels that make the screen appear smaller.
Even though it’s not a major disadvantage, it can be a pet peeve for some users. However, the tablet’s surprisingly high resolution makes up for the decrease in screen size. We can still enjoy sharp visuals on the screen.
As an extra protection, the device utilizes Asahi Glass to layer their screen. This material is commonly found in most modern smart tablets. Although, we do suggest applying tempered glass as well. As the tablet’s main users are children, a little more precautionary effort wouldn’t hurt.
Alcatel Joy Tab Kids Camera
The Alcatel Joy Tab Kids features a 5MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera. Additionally, both cameras do not come with flash. Users may think it’s a bummer that the tablet has limited camera options.
This also doesn’t help the fact that such a hi-tech device still has small megapixels. But at least children are provided with the luxury of being able to take photos on their tablets.
Besides taking photos, we can use the tablet to record videos. Capturing moving pictures at 720p @30fps, it still takes decent quality videos. As for video playbacks, we can watch clips at an impressively high resolution of 1080p @30fps. This is great for watching tons of clips on the device.
Alcatel Joy Tab Kids Storage
The Alcatel Joy Tab Kids has a total storage of 32GB. Unfortunately, out of all the available tablet memory, only 24GB can be accessed. It may come off as disappointing, but this is a common case with current devices.
Still, we appreciate that developers manage to leave ¾ of the storage for our personal use. It is more than enough room to download apps, books, or videos.
What’s more, we can install a microSD if we need additional storage. The tablet supports up to 32GB of external memory. This is a great alternative option compared to minimizing our memory usage each day. We can install an abundance of educational tools and programs right in our device.
Alcatel Joy Tab Kids Performance
Alcatel Joy Tab Kids is supported by a 1.5GHz Quad-core MediaTek MT8765A and a 2GB of RAM. A lot of modern technologies require at least 3GB – 4GB of RAM for smooth functioning.
A 2GB RAM is still enough to open most of our apps. However, the lack of RAM could affect multi-app functions. Users may encounter issues running several apps in the background.
Our Alcatel Joy Tab Kids review views the product from different angles. But it is just as important to provide tips on how to alleviate certain concerns. When it comes to problems caused by small RAM, it’s a common issue. We can opt for special apps that help clear cache on our tablets. Alternatively, we can delete old apps that we no longer use.
On top of that, the tablet uses an Android 9 Pie Operating System, mostly installed in current devices. Visually, it provides the tablet with its trademark Google style. For fans of gestures, the OS implements newer gesture controls to experiment with.
Notifications have also become neater, providing a cleaner and simplistic interface for child users. While there are no fingerprint sensors installed, facial recognition is available for increased tablet accessibility.
Alcatel Joy Tab Kids Connectivity
The Alcatel Joy Tab Kids can stay connected through 4G LTE networks. To save up on mobile data, we can turn on the tablet’s Wi-Fi feature instead. The tablet also has a mobile hotspot that acts as a portable Internet modem. This comes in handy if we ever need the Internet connection for more than one gadget.
To activate our 4G LTE network, we will need to insert our SIM Card. The table has a single card slot made for Micro-SIM cards. Additionally, it also comes with Bluetooth Version 4.2 for our data transferring needs. Skip the USB cable, and simply turn on the Bluetooth to share memories with other people.
Alcatel Joy Tab Kids Battery
The Alcatel Joy Tab Kids is installed with a 4,080mAh battery. Coming in a large size, this is quite a remarkable battery capacity.
The battery ensures that the tablet has a total standby time of up to 29 days. In other words, the tablet can withstand up to 6.6 hours of video playback. That is a lot of time for children to use their tablets in one go.
As the tablet comes with a large battery, it requires a longer time to charge. Unfortunately, the device does not support fast charging. The estimated time for that it takes for a proper, full charge is more than four hours. However, we can make use of its Battery Saver Mode so that the battery capacity doesn’t deplete so easily.
Is the Alcatel Joy Tab Kids a good device?
The Alcatel Joy Tab Kids can be purchased for a steeping price of $192. Users will be paying for a tablet that does the bare minimum. Take away Kidomi, the family entertainment choices and parental controls, and all we have is an average tablet. The design may be attractive at first sight. But with the RAM and poor camera quality, we think it’s a bit too expensive.
Summarizing our Alcatel Joy Tab Kids review, we suggest browsing for other tablets with better performance. They may not be as kid-friendly, but we can alter it to be that way. All it takes is some configuration on the settings. However, this ultimately depends on personal preference. At the end of the day, it’s up to us to decide what’s best for our children.
